Plant - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Early seed plants are referred to as gymnosperms (naked seeds), as the seed embryo is not enclosed in a protective structure at pollination, with the pollen landing directly on the embryo.
All of these plants have eukaryotic cells with cell walls composed of cellulose, and most obtain their energy through photosynthesis, using light and carbon dioxide to synthesize food.
The angiosperms, comprising the flowering plants, were the last major group of plants to appear, emerging from within the gymnosperms during the Jurassic and diversifying rapidly during the Cretaceous.

 Kingdom Plantae
The third major division of plants, the gymnosperms, consists of conifers and such plants that have sperm made by pollen grains.
In most plants, the sporophyte generation is dominant; for example, in pine trees, the tree is a sporophyte plant while the small cones are gametophytes.
Thus, plants have developed root structures, which, in addition to anchoring a plant in the ground, allow the plant to take up chemical nutrients from the soil.

 Plant Patents
If the plant is a newly found plant, the oath or declaration must also state that the plant was found in a cultivated area.
All inquiries relating to plant patents and pending plant patent applications should be directed to the Patent and Trademark Office and not to the Department of Agriculture.
The Plant Variety Protection Act (Public Law 91577), approved December 24, 1970, provides for a system of protection for sexually reproduced varieties, for which protection was not previously provided, under the administration of a Plant Variety Protection Office within the Department of Agriculture.

 Systematics of the Plantae
In the spermatophytes ("seed plants"), the situation is reversed, and the gametophyte is the smaller and dependent generation.
Vascular tissue is found in all "seed plants" and "pteridophytes", with the exception of some early "rhyniophytes", and so these plants are often referred to as the tracheophytes ("vascular plants").
The plant groups shown in this cladogram, except for the "seed plants", all have a free-living independent gametophyte which nurtures the young sporophyte.

Plant Markers by K & S, label and identify all garden plants with plant markers.
Our plant markers are unique because the jog in the stake keeps them from turning, can be used with any size plant, be arranged to blend in with the foliage or to stand out, are easy to locate and read, stay where you put them and are very durable.
If a mistake is made labeling your plant marker or if you lose a plant and don't replace it, no problem, touch up your plant marker with a little black spray paint and relabel.
The more plants we collected the harder it was to keep them marked.
