Phelsuma - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Two Phelsuma species (Phelsuma gigas and Phelsuma edwardnewtoni) are now considered to be extinct, probably because of destruction of their environment by human settlers and their domestic animals.
The length of the different Phelsuma species varies between about 6.5 to 30 cm (2.5-12 in.).

 Niagara Reptiles - Phelsuma standingi
Phelsuma standingi are one of the largest species of gecko from Madagascar.
Unlike other Phelsuma's, Standing's come from a drier region in Madagascar and humidity levels that are too high can actually be harmful to them.
They are a fair size which doesn't make them as delicate as some of the smaller species of Phelsuma and they will tolerate human presence.

 ADW: Phelsuma ornata: Information
Phelsuma ornata, one of the smalles reptiles in the world, ranges in length from 1.5 to 2.5 cm.
Like many of the species of Phelsuma inhabiting the islands around and on Madagascar, Phelsuma ornata is omnivorous, spending its days leaping around in search of insects, lapping up nectar, saps, and juices, and consuming pollen and overripe fruits (Bartlett and Bartlett 1997).
All day geckos, including Phelsuma ornata, benefit humans by helping to control the insect population (Bartlett and Bartlett 1997).

 Day Gecko Breeding
One of the largest and most spectacular of the Day Geckos is the Giant Day Gecko, Phelsuma madagascariensis grandis.
At the turn of the decade, an adult pair could be purchased for $200.00 but captive-bred juveniles were not available.

 P.klemmeri
The species lives with among others Phelsuma seippi.
One did this to protect the species against irresponsible collecting.
Throughout the hole year it is in this area warm and moist (

 Phelsuma Care Sheet
Even though most day geckos species have many common needs, there are also many different care requirements between species.
It is also important to provide proper ventilation in the enclosure while keeping proper humidity.
Bottom substrate should be made up of a layer of tiny pebbles at least 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) thick for drainage followed by a 1.5 inch (3.8 cm) layer of peat moss or Styrolite-free potting soil.

 madagascar giant day gecko
The climate is rather dry, though heavy rainfalls are quite common.
Phelsuma magascariensis grandis is often found on different trees where it can be seen basking.
It can also be found on some of the off shore islets.

 Day Gecko: WhoZoo
This species was unique because it's found in dry places, and it also lacks the bright coloration of other day geckos.
Phelsuma geckos are diurnal (active during the day), while most other members of the family Gekkonidae are nocturnal.
She also told me that Phelsuma geckos are different than most other geckos in that they are highly territorial.

 [gecko]Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!
To address the egg laying, Phelsuma will continue to produce eggs in almost any health condition.
This is especially rough on an MBD (metabolic bone disease) gecko.
If you can get this gecko outside in the sunlight that would be very beneficial for her.

Phelsuma of the Mascarenes - photos
These brightly colored lizards can be found in a wide variety of habitats, and feed on insects, nectar, and pollen.
There are at least seven species of day geckos in the genus Phelsuma in the Mascarene islands.
Soon I will include more information and additional photos of each species.

PhelsumaWeb :: View topic - Phelsuma guimbeaui rosagularis or Phelsuma rosagularis
They mated a little, and the female laid a few eggs, but all were infertile.
Even if Phelsuma guimbeaui guimbeaui and Phelsuma guimbeaui rosagularis are similar in there apperence, the last studys consider them separate species (AUSTIN, 2003).
I´m 43 years old and have been breeding Phelsumas for moore then 20 years.

 Phelsuma klemmeri
Hopefully this project will take off in 2003, but in 2002 we stopped selling these awesome geckos to rebuild our breeding colony, which had gotten old.
This is perhaps the best of the Phelsuma for terrarium keeping, they are incredible in markings, not too shy, and fairly easy to keep.
I find mine watching me any time I am in the gecko room!

Amazon.com: Books: Day Geckos (General Care, Maintenance and Breeding Series) (General Care Maintenance of Series)
Details basic care with extensive information on a variety of food sources and nutritional information, cage construction ideas, health problems, breeding, and incubation.
Covers all species and subspecies in the genus phelsuma (including limited information on those thought to be extinct), each with detailed care information and most with color photographs.
Though generally very helpful and nice, some of the info (especially latin names) is not up to date, some species are missing (Phelsuma Pronki, Phelsuma Masohoala etc.) due to their recent discovery.

 Phelsuma l. bombetokensis
Phelsuma lineata bombetokensis, other wise known as “Bombos” are a fairly recent addition to the hobby.
I am working with two bloodlines, the parents of which were found mixed into a group of freshly imported P. lineata lineata.
I began seeing them two or three years ago.

 Gekkonidae
Presently, Rhacodactylus leachianus is regarded as having the greatest snout-vent length of 240mm, with a tail length of less than the 50% of the snout-vent length.
Finally, scalation characteristics range from the tile-like network (smooth, cycloid, imbricate) to be found on Teratoscincus, Geckolepis, and Teratolepis, to among some of the most minute, velvety-textured, granular scales exhibited in several Oedura species.
The largest known (recent) fossil species are Phelsuma gigas (total length more than 500mm) and Hoplodactylus delcourti (total length of the only known specimen measures 622mm).

 Re: [gecko]Mites on Phelsuma
It is not fun to give Phelsuma shots, even though these guys are "medium sized."
You want to get any eggs that may hatch out after the 1st treatment.

 Madagascar Day Gecko (Phelsuma madagascariensis)

 Lined Day Gecko (Phelsuma lineata)
This species was misidentified as Phelsuma newtonia (a species name that apparently doesn't exist) by our Malagasy guide, which is surprising since he knew the wildlife well and correctly identified numerous other species.
Day Gecko expert Greg Christienson kindly identified it correctly for me based on this picture.
