 Don Markstein's Toonopedia: Peanuts
Peanuts is perhaps the most commercially successful comic strip of all time.
Peanuts was first animated in 1957, for a series of automobile commercials — but the strip's actual career in that medium began in 1965, when producers Lee Mendelson and Bill Melendez made A Charlie Brown Christmas.
By 1955, Peanuts had attracted so much attention, it brought Schulz the first of two Reuben Awards (the second came in 1964) — and in 1978 he was named International Cartoonist of the Year by a vote of over 700 of his colleagues, worldwide.

Some newspapers also treated it rather cruelly during the first several years; the uniform, four- panel format made it possible to run the strip horizontally or vertically, or in a squarish box.
The first time was in the strip dated August 28, 1951, which can be seen in the first reprint collection, PEANUTS.

Despite their high fat content, peanuts may be healthy again thanks to their high concentrations of antioxidants
Peanuts are in the news again as being healthy - despite their high-fat levels - as researchers suggest that they may be as rich in antioxidants as many fruits.
The researchers' findings were part of a broader study designed to measure the nutritional differences between traditional peanut breeds and the growing number of high oleic ("good" fat) peanuts now available to peanut growers.
Though their concentrations are not as high as in fruits such as pomegranates, they do fall into the middle of the scale, meaning that they are about equal with blackberries and strawberries.
