Topic: Leptosiaphos

A month in the forest of Príncipe
I was able to get within a foot and a half of both of them and watched one feeding on the small skink ( Leptosiaphos africana).
Throughout this mountain forest the small skink ( Leptosiaphos africana) and the small land frog ( Phrynobatrachus dispar) were present, but at lower densities than the Pico do Príncipe.
Remains of the white thin-shelled snail with a brown stripe ( Lignus alabaster) is always found in higher abundance when a thrush is near by.

 Scincidae
Clutch size is commonly low (~ six) and is limited to one or two eggs in some species groups (e.g., Tribolonotus and Emoia, respectively).
Mittleman (1952) recognized the following lygosome genera: Ablepharus, Anotis (= Nannoscincus), Ateuchosaurus, Carlia, Cophoscincopus, (Cophoscincus (=Lipinia, Calyptotis and Cophoscincopus, Cryptoblepharus, Dasia, Emoia, Eugongylus, Eumecia, Hemiergis, Lampropholis, Leiolopisma, Leptosiaphos, Lipinia, Lygosoma, Mochlus, Nodorha (= Lerista), Norbea (=Tropidophorus), Ophioscincus, Otosaurus (=Sphenomorphus), Panaspis, Rhodona (= Lerista), Riopa, Ristella, Saiphos, Scincella, Sphenomorphus, Squamicilia (= Lygosoma), Tachygyia, Tribolonotus, Tropidophorus.

 Ornate Wolf Snake
Habitat: a terrestrial forest species, occuring up to 3000 m.
at air temperatures as low as 15.2°C. Most were foraging along the road banks in the vicinity of Ruhizha, probably seeking lizards of the genera Adolfus or Leptosiaphos.
This species is nocturnal, found active between 2100-0100 hrs.

Terrestrial Ecoregions -- Albertine Rift montane forests (AT0101)
These include four species of chameleons ( Chamaeleo spp.) and four species of skinks in the genus Leptosiaphos.
However, given the very high rates of endemism in other vertebrate groups the number of endemics may more reflect the relatively low rates of biological collecting, rather than the true numbers of reptile endemics
In comparison to the other vertebrate groups the number of endemic reptiles is relatively low, with 11 strict endemics.

Terrestrial Ecoregions -- Mount Cameroon and Bioko montane forests (AT0121)
Other near-endemic species include Cameroon mountain chameleon ( Chamaeleo montium), Sjöstedt's five-toed skink ( Leptosiaphos gemmiventris), and Tandy's smalltongue toad ( Werneria tandyi).
Mount Cameroon is also important for butterflies, including the endemic Charaxes musakensis (Fotso et al.
Two additional amphibians are considered near endemics, the four-digit toad ( Didynamipus sjotstedti) and the frog, Athroleptis bivittatus.

Locality records for these, plus Cnemaspis quattuorseriata from Bwindi (Drewes and Vindum, 1997) and Leptosiaphos aloysiisabaudiae from Garamba (De Witte, 1966) and Uganda (Peracca, 1907), suggest that these species are not forest-dependent.
Thus, approximately 60% of Kibale's lizard fauna should be considered part of the farmbush assemblage.
