UCONN IPM: Integrated Pest Management:Vegetables & Greenhouse:IPM for Bedding Plants
Infected vegetable transplants planted into the garden or field will be stunted and will not produce a harvestable crop.
Bacterial diseases of vegetable bedding plants, such as bacterial leaf spot of peppers, bacterial speck and bacterial canker of tomatoes and black rot on cole crops are introduced into a greenhouse through infected seed and transplants.
Vegetable bedding plants with only one or two key insect pests or with a longer production schedule may be logical candidates for biological control.

Tarnished Plant Bug Damage on Vegetable Crops in Ontario
For vegetable crops, dimethoate, endosulfan and several of the synthetic pyrethroids are labeled for TPB control, however, this varies with the crop.
Alfalfa and corn fields near vegetable crops are major sources of TPB and populations of redroot pigweed, chickweed, dandelion and all types of mint in and around commercial vegetable fields will increase the likelihood of TPB infestation.
The saliva of TPB is toxic to plants and this leads to the necrotic lesions and secondary rots associated with their feeding.

 Greenhouse Vegetable Production
Leaf and Bibb lettuce varieties are the most common types grown in the greenhouse.
Most vegetable production greenhouses in New Mexico are heated by natural gas.
With light being one of the most important factors in greenhouse vegetable production, the Southwest has become an ideal area for future development of this industry, particularly in the winter months when tomato and cucumber prices are at a premium.

 Vegetable Crops - pt 3
Other causes of tip blight are damage of the root system by the disease known as pink root, damage by certain insects, particularly thrips and leaf miners, soil-related problems that place the plants under undue stress, and occasionally damage by ozone gas released into the atmosphere during severe thunderstorms accompanied by frequent lightning.
The disease is frequently associated with small whitish spots occurring along the entire length of the leaf.
Foliage has a general unhealthy yellowish color and plants are small or dwarfed.
http://plantpathology.tamu.edu/Texlab/Vegetables/veg3.html

 Vegetable Crops pt 2
The disease usually occurs during the latter part of the growing season and can be controlled with the same recommendations as for leaf blight.
Control stalk rots by rotating with non-related crops, planting in well drained soils and by using treated seed.
Northern Corn Leaf Blight (fungus - Exserohilum turcicum): This disease is found in most sweet corn fields, yet is seldom severe enough to cause economic loss.

 Vegetable Leaf Miner
The four stages of its development are: egg, larva (leaf miner), pupa, and adult (a small fly).
This insect largely passes the winter in greenhouses or is brought in on plants from southern climes, but it may overwinter outdoors in parts of South Carolina.
Hosts of the vegetable leaf miner are tomato, beans, southern peas, and various cucurbits.

Vegetable Gardening Organic Insect Control Methods
Protection Offered: Nicotine is effective against ground and soil pests, especially root aphids and fungus gnats, and on many leaf-chewing insects, such as aphids, immature scales, leafhoppers, thrips, leaf miners, pear psylla, and asparagus beetle larvae.
For aphid control, be sure to thoroughly cover the leaf undersides, especially of lower leaves and growing tips of plants where aphidscongregate.
Protection Offered: Pyrethrins are registered for flowers, fruits, and vegetables, including greenhouse crops.

This polymorphic vegetable also has a flattened, flying saucer shaped type, known either as 'Patty Pan Squash' or 'Scallopini' (these need to be harvested very small- about 100mm/4 inches or less in diameter).
Small bulblets appear in the leaf axils, and these can be stored over winter and planted in spring.

 Onion-Botrytis Leaf Blight fact sheet
Botrytis leaf blight (BLB) is a fungal disease that occurs in many of the onion growing areas of the world.
In the absence of seed fields and cull piles, it is suspected that sclerotic in the soil and sclerotic on volunteer plants provide the primary source of inoculum for outbreaks of BLB in commercial onion fields.
Leaves of onion plants in commercial fields can be infected by conidia that develop from sclerotic in the soil.

 Vegetable Pathology Program
Foliar diseases on leafy vegetable crops in Washington can be caused by both obligate and non-obligate parasites.
Correct diagnoses of leafy vegetable foliar diseases are important because they can lead to appropriate fungicide selection, improve the timing of fungicide applications, assist with the selection of cultivars with higher levels of resistance, and determine appropriate cultural practices for more effective disease management.
The downy mildews are some of the most commonly encountered foliar diseases on leafy vegetables in the PNW.

Swiss chard, the leaf vegetable that keeps on giving! by Raymond Nones Issue #92
As for food value, it is one of the best vegetables for vitamin A and is an excellent source of calcium and iron.
What’s more, if covered with a shredded leaf mulch, it will overwinter, then can continue to be harvested in the following season up to summer when it will go to seed.
Swiss chard is one of the few vegetables that provides a continuous harvest without successive plantings.

Common Problems for Vegetable Crops - Leaf Miner
However, leafminer attack vegetables such as tomato, cucumber, and celery.
Sometimes they also attack lettuce and parsley in the greenhouse but cause less damage to similar vegetables grown in the field.
The larvae drop from the leaves after feeding for about two weeks onto the ground where it pupates and overwinters in the soil as pupae.

Leaf vegetable - Art History Online Reference and Guide
Almost all types of leaf vegetables come from annual plants or biennial plants.
Although they come from a very wide variety of plants, most share a great deal with other leaf vegetables in nutrition and cooking methods.
Leaf vegetables are typically low in calories, high in protein per calorie, high in dietary fiber, high in iron and calcium, and very high in phytochemicals such as vitamin C, vitamin A, lutein and folic acid.

Rotation Periods To Control Vegetable Diseases
Crop rotation is a classic disease control strategy that should be implemented and incorporated into an integrated pest management plan for vegetable production.
Length of rotation can vary depending on the nature of the disease-causing agent (pathogen) that needs to be controlled.
It is the policy of the Delaware Cooperative Extension System that no person shall be subjected to discrimination on the grounds of race, color, sex, disability, age, or national origin.

That is to say, they eliminate the alkaloid that it containsand and later use that to manufacture medicines, anesthetics and artificial flavors.
However, the sale was never made directly: a chemical products laboratory (making flavors and other products), subsidiary of the multinational Monsanto, was in charge of buying and processing the coca leaf, that was then sold to the owners of the dark-colored soft drink as a mixture.
Narco News Bulletin in South America reports that hundreds of tons of coca leaf were sold around 1999 to Monsanto, which processed the leaf into syrup which was then sold to companies including Coca Cola.
