On December lst, 1920, the Brasov Town council donated the Bran Castle to Queen Marie of Great Romania, as a symbol of gratitude for her contribution to the achievement of the "Great Union" of 1 December 1918.

Bran was a trading point during the middle ages; now it's claimed this was the castle of Vlad Tepes, but in fact his castle lies in ruins farther west in Transylvania in the Arges Valley.

Bran Castle is definitely quite a sight and has got several cryptic rooms and a secret retreat passage that could be used to flee into the mountains in case of danger… or to leave the castle stealthily and lurk out at night.
It is probably this great inconvenience that has determined the cultural authorities of Romania to “transplant” the myth into Bran Castle, though the latter has never actually served even as a temporary residence for the Wallachian ruler.
It lies in the fact that Bran Castle, one of the greatest tourist attractions of Romania, is actually erroneously called “Dracula’s Castle”.

One thing which kept me wondering in Bran Castle was how much more authentic would it have been were the walls not white washed with plaster and kept in their original form.
The bus took 40 minutes to arrive at Bran and with some common sense we located Bran Castle.
After the castle experience we brought a kilo of the reddest cherries at the marketplace outside the castle for 50,000lei and nibbled them till the bus arrived at 11:40.
